ENJOY A DIP IN ONE OF THE ADRIATIC'S CLEANEST STRETCHES OF SEA..
Due to unique currents and its distance from river mouths, the coastline between the Punta Longa and Punta Ferruccio headlands (which enclose the bay facing the campsite) has consistently boasted EXCELLENT water quality, as evidenced by surveys conducted by ARTA (the regional environmental protection authority).
A NATURE RESERVE WORTH DISCOVERING NOW STANDS ON THE ANCIENT RUINS OF THE DISUSED RAILWAY LINE.
SOME USEFUL TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE SPECIAL FEATURES OF OUR BEAUTIFUL COVE AND THE TREASURES OF OUR SEA.
Don't forget to bring your “rubber shoes.” This will allow you to walk comfortably on the pebbles and rocks, avoiding punctures and minor abrasions. They also provide minimal anti-slip protection on wet surfaces. They're also a must if you want to experience the thrill of reaching the “Ciamprone” rock, popular with locals and now also with vacationers who love to dive into the sea. We firmly believe that with this small precaution, you'll love pebble beaches (especially those with small, rounded pebbles) even more, and you'll enjoy the often underestimated benefits in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.
Given the unique shape of the bay, nestled between two rocky headlands and featuring a shallow, fish-rich seabed, it is an ideal spot for rock fishing in the early morning before swimmers arrive, as well as for snorkeling and underwater fishing. So, remember to pack long-range fishing rods, a reel, and bait (the lures used for rock fishing are often the same as those used in lakes and rivers), as well as a mask and fins.
Don't forget to bring your sneakers or hiking boots to enjoy a beautiful hike along the “Via Verde Costa dei Trabocchi,” the brand-new shared-use path that will take you from the campsite to the coastal towns south of Ortona (such as San Vito Chietino, Rocca San Giovanni, and Fossacesia, and even as far as Vasto). The path connecting the campsite to the starting point of the cycle/pedestrian path is about 200 m long and is rather uneven, sloping and unlit. It is therefore essential to be equipped with a torch in case you are late returning and, as already mentioned, suitable shoes.
